This course will train food processors principles of acidification, and container closure evaluation programs for low-acid and acidified canned foods as required by FDA regulations in CFR 108, 113 and 114. The purpose of these regulations is to help ensure the safety of consumers by training producers. This course will satisfy both USDA and FDA requirements.

Better Process Control School will be taught by the faculty members from the Department of Food Science at UMass Amherst.   Dr. Sam Nugen, Dr. Julie Goddard, Dr. McLandsborough and Extension Specialist Amanda Kinchla, M.S. bring together academic and industry experience as well as expertise in food microbiology, processing and packaging.

Conference Location

UMass Hotel
Rooms at the UMass Hotel can be booked using the link at the left (Group Code: BPCSC). To request a room in the reserved block at the rate of $120 plus tax (per night) you must reserve your room by December 17, 2013. Room availability is not guaranteed after this date. Rates of available rooms booked after December 17, 2013 are not guaranteed. The hotel room is NOT included in the conference registration fee.

Parking
Parking is available at the Campus Center Parking Garage. For GPS purposes, the garage is located at 1 Campus Center Way, Amherst, MA, 01003. After taking an entry ticket, proceed to Level 2 of the garage and enter the Campus Center using the marked walkway. Follow the signs to conference registration. At conference registration, you may obtain a discounted parking pass for the Campus Center Parking Garage. This pass must be given to the parking garage attendant upon exiting the garage and entities each conferee to a discounted parking rate of $5 a day. If you are staying at the UMass Hotel at the Campus Center you will receive one complimentary parking pass per room per day. Please only park in the garage: parking anywhere else on campus could result in unwanted ticketing and towing.

Refund/Cancellation Policy
Those wishing to cancel their registration prior to December 31, 2013 will be refunded registration fees paid, less $100 plus the $85 textbook fee for administration and processing. There will be no refunds for cancellations received after December 31, 2013. The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone any event due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances.  If an event is canceled or postponed, the University will refund registration fees but cannot be held responsible for other costs, charges, or expenses, including cancellation/change charges assessed by airlines or travel agencies.
